About the Speaker

Dr. Uttam Manna is an Assistant Professor and heads the Bio-Inspired Polymeric Materials Lab at IIT Guwahati. His research areas encompass Polymer Material, Biomaterial superhydrophobic surfaces, Layer-by-Layer Assembly and Microcapsules among others. He along with his team developed a special kind of superior, oil-repulsive (oleophobic) coating which applied on objects will be helpful in removing oil from oil-contaminated surfaces or for absorbing oil from ocean oil-spills. He is an associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences and recipient of numerous awards including Emerging Investigators in Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2018, NASI-Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award, 2018, DAE-Young Scientist Research Award, 2017 and DST Young Scientist, 2015.

Title of the Talk

"Biomimicked Liquid Wettability and Its Potential Applications".

Nature remained inspiration for human beings to rationally think, and overcome the existing challenges through strategic exploitation of new possibilities, and that eventually improve the quality of life. Many problems in everyday life is resolved following the blissful path of science. Over the centuries, many relevant discoveries (“flying machine” to the fastest bullet train) were initiated and eventually materialized by careful observation of naturally occurred phenomena. In this relevance, I will discuss on biomimicked liquids wettability; how nature has developed various liquids repellent interfaces? And how this interfaces can be artificially synthesized for various prospective uses in the present scenarios?
