International Conference on Advances in Sustainable Solutions for Energy Transitions (ASSET 2025), scheduled for January 2-4, 2025 at the esteemed School of Energy Science and Engineering, IIT Guwahati aims to stand as a cornerstone event in the quest for sustainable energy solutions. This conference, which will bring together top specialists, scholars, decision-makers, and business representatives from around the globe and promises to be a turning point in the conversation around energy sustainability. Keynote addresses, panel discussions, paper presentations, and workshops on a variety of subjects, including renewable energy integration, energy storage, smart grid systems, and policy frameworks for sustainable development, will be included in the conference. Participants will get the chance to participate in multidisciplinary discussions that promote cooperation and knowledge sharing across the government, business, and academic sectors.

How To reach

By Air: The distance from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport - Guwahati (GAU) to IIT Guwahati is about 22 kms. In the Arrival Lounge (inside Airport), there is a pre-paid taxi counter. You can take a prepaid taxi from the airport to reach IIT Guwahati campus.

By Train: The distance from Guwahati Railway Station (GHY) to IIT Guwahati is about 18 kms. If you are arriving at Guwahati Railway Station by rail, come out through Platform No.1 exit gate (Panbazar or Lakhhtokia side). A limited number of IIT buses run regularly from Guwahati city - Lakhtokia (Near Don Bosco School's Church/ Cotton College Boys Hostel, which is about 0.5 km from the Guwahati Railway Station) to IIT Campus. The distance from Kamakhya Railway Station (KYQ) to IIT Guwahati is about 13 kms. For commuting from Kamakya Railway Station, you may have to hire taxi or auto-rickshaws.

Guwahati City

Guwahati, often referred to as the "Gateway to Northeast India," is a major city in the Indian state of Assam. It serves as an important cultural, commercial, and educational hub for the region. Among its notable attractions are the Kamakhya Temple, a significant Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, located on Nilachal Hill, which draws pilgrims from across India. The Umananda Temple, situated on Peacock Island in the Brahmaputra River, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and offers panoramic views of both the river and the city. Additionally, the Assam State Museum presents the cultural heritage of Assam with its extensive collection of artifacts, sculptures, and historical exhibits.

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park, located in Assam, India, spans around 430 square kilometers and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Established as a reserved forest in 1905 and declared a national park in 1974, Kaziranga features diverse habitats including wetlands, grasslands, and forests.

The park is home to various wildlife, including elephants, tigers, wild water buffaloes, swamp deer, and numerous bird species. Conservation efforts focus on anti-poaching measures and habitat management, making Kaziranga a successful model for wildlife protection.

Tourism is well-developed, with jeep safaris and elephant rides available, and the best visiting months are from November to April.

Manas National Park

Manas National Park, located in the Himalayan foothills in Assam, India, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a Project Tiger reserve, an elephant reserve, and a biosphere reserve. This designation highlights the park's importance in global conservation efforts and its rich natural heritage.

The park is renowned for its unique biodiversity and beautiful landscapes, featuring lush forests, grasslands, and the Manas River. These diverse habitats support a wide variety of plant and animal life, making it a critical area for ecological research and environmental preservation.Manas is home to several endangered species, including the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog. The presence of these rare species underscores the park's role in protecting India's most vulnerable wildlife.

Additionally, Manas boasts one of the largest populations of the Bengal tiger and the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. These iconic animals are significant both for their ecological roles and as symbols of India's natural heritage, attracting conservationists and tourists alike.

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Morigaon district of Assam, India, is about 50 kilometers east of Guwahati. Covering an area of 38.8 square kilometers, it is famous for its high density of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses, earning it the nickname "Mini Kaziranga." The sanctuary also hosts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including over 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. The best time to visit is between November and March, when visitors can enjoy jeep safaris and elephant rides to explore the area. Pobitora plays a vital role in the conservation of the one-horned rhinoceros, contributing significantly to the preservation of this vulnerable species..
