About the Speaker
Prof. Pradeep Gururaj Yammiyavar is a Senior Professor ( H.A.G) at IIT Guwahati with over 30 years of Academic experience working in the area of multi and interdisciplinary Design programs related to Innovation, Management & Technology in multiple roles of Scientist, Researcher, Teacher and Designer of Products. He is a specialist in Innovation, User Centered Design, Usability Engineering and Information Technology. He has established new bench marks & standards in Creative Design Research education in India and new Design thrust areas and Research facilities at National level encompassing HCI, Interaction design, Information design and Strategic Design Management . He is an Elected Fellow of the Design Research Society (UK) and recipient of numerous awards including 'Silver 'A' Design Award for " Bio-Inspired Fabric Design", IDC-IIT Bombay Alumni award for National contribution to the field of Design in India and Fellowship of the Government of Switzerland (SDC) in 1996.

This Keynote address will trace ongoing Design Research trends by highlighting research examples from the Usability Engineering – HCI Laboratory at the Department of Design – IIT Guwahati. Starting with a brief introductory background to understand ‘Design’ in its new emerging avatar, the presentation will focus on the urgent need for Designers to redefine boundaries and methods of their research practices so as to remain in the forefront of Innovation through engineering real world User Experience into virtual world ubiquitous AI and IOT User systems. The presentation will argue for a revolutionary upheaval in curriculum structure aimed at building a foundation for Design Sciences
