Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Posters

The Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Posters track at INDIS 2026 provides an opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and students to present early-stage research, emerging ideas, preliminary findings, or innovative design explorations.

This track encourages contributions that may not yet be fully developed into complete research papers but demonstrate promising directions, exploratory studies, or novel perspectives in design and innovation research.

Short papers and posters offer authors the opportunity to share ongoing work, receive feedback from the research community, and engage in discussion with conference participants. Such formats are commonly used in design and HCI conferences to facilitate idea exchange and collaborative exploration.

Note: Pure marketing or product descriptions will not be accepted.

Scope of Contributions

Submissions in this track may include:

  1. Early-stage or exploratory research studies
  2. Work-in-progress design investigations
  3. Preliminary empirical findings

Each submission will be reviewed by multiple members of the Scientific Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and novelty of the research contribution
  • Methodological rigor and clarity
  • Relevance to the conference themes
  • Quality of analysis and discussion
  • Contribution to design and innovation research

Submission Process

All Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Poster submissions must be submitted through the Microsoft Conference Management Toolkit (Microsoft CMT) submission system.

Authors must:

  1. Create or log in to a Microsoft CMT account at Microsoft CMT Log in
  2. Select the INDIS 2026 – Full Research Paper track
  3. Upload the anonymized manuscript in PDF format
  4. Provide the required metadata (title, abstract, keywords, author details)

Submissions sent by email or other means will not be considered.

Recommended Poster Structure

Authors presenting posters at INDIS 2026 are encouraged to design their posters in a clear and visually engaging manner that communicates the key ideas of their work effectively. Posters should enable viewers to quickly understand the research problem, approach, and key insights.

A recommended structure for the poster includes the following sections:

  • Title and Author Information
    • Title of the work
    • Author names and affiliations
    • Contact information (email or QR code for further details)
  • Introduction / Background
    • Brief context of the research problem
    • Motivation or design challenge being addressed
  • Research Objective or Question
    • Key research question, hypothesis, or design goal
  • Approach / Methodology
    • Methods, tools, or design processes used
    • Description of experiments, studies, or design activities
  • Design Artifact/Prototype(if applicable)
    • Visual documentation of prototypes, artifacts, or systems
    • Diagrams, sketches, interface designs, or process illustrations
  • Key Findings or Insights
    • •Preliminary results, observations, or insights from the work
    • Lessons learned or emerging patterns
  • Implications
    • Potential implications for design research, innovation practice, or future work
  • References
    • Key references cited in the work
  • Acknowledgements (if applicable)
    • Funding sources, collaborators, or contributors to the work

Authors are encouraged to use visual elements such as diagrams, photographs, illustrations, and infographics to effectively communicate their ideas and research outcomes.

Detailed poster size and formatting guidelines will be shared with authors after acceptance.

Important Notes

  • Submissions must present original, unpublished work that is not currently under review elsewhere.
  • All papers will be checked for academic integrity and originality.
  • At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present the work at the conference for it to appear in the proceedings.

Review Process

All Short Paper and Poster submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process.

Each submission will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee and domain experts, who will evaluate the paper based on:

  • Relevance to design and innovation practice
  • Clarity in presenting the case context and design process
  • Practical insights and lessons learned
  • Contribution to design knowledge and professional practice
  • Quality and clarity of presentation

The Program Chair and Scientific Committee will make the final acceptance decisions based on reviewer recommendations.

Program Chair

The Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Poster Contributions track is coordinated under the leadership of the Program Chair:

Mr. Dhaval Joshi
SIMU Labs

The Program Chair works closely with the Scientific Committee and reviewers to ensure a fair, transparent, and high-quality review process.

Poster Presentation

Accepted short papers will typically be presented as posters or brief presentations during dedicated poster sessions at the conference.

Poster sessions allow authors to:

  • Present ideas in a visual and interactive format
  • Discuss their work directly with conference participants
  • Receive feedback from researchers, practitioners, and industry experts

Posters are particularly suited for presenting new ideas, work-in-progress, or exploratory research, enabling dynamic discussion and exchange of perspectives.

Detailed poster format and presentation guidelines will be provided to authors after acceptance.

At the Conference

Authors of accepted Short Papers and Posters will present their work during interactive poster sessions at INDIS 2026.

These sessions aim to:

  • Foster direct interaction between authors and participants
  • Encourage discussion on emerging research ideas
  • Provide feedback that may help authors develop their work into future full research papers

At least one author of each accepted submission must register and present the work at the conference.

Publication and Archival

Accepted Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Poster submissions will be published as a compiled collection of Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Posters as part of the INDIS 2026 conference publication.

The collection will be published as a book with an ISBN, ensuring formal publication and long-term archival. This compilation will document emerging ideas, preliminary research, and early-stage design explorations presented at the conference.

All accepted submissions will:

  • Be included in the official conference publication for INDIS 2026
  • Be published in a dedicated volume compiling Short Papers / Work-in-Progress and Posters
  • Receive a formal ISBN for citation and archival purposes
This publication will provide visibility to early-stage research contributions and emerging design ideas, while allowing authors to further develop their work into future full research publications.

Ethics and Responsible Research

Authors must ensure that submissions represent original work and responsible research practices.

Research involving human participants, user studies, or field investigations should follow appropriate ethical standards, including informed consent and protection of participant privacy.

All sources and prior work must be properly acknowledged through appropriate citations.

Submissions that violate ethical standards may be rejected or withdrawn from the review process.

Use of Generative AI Tools

Authors may use generative AI tools (such as language models or AI-assisted writing systems) as supportive tools during the research and writing process, but they remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work.

AI systems must not be listed as authors, and any significant use of AI tools should be transparently acknowledged where appropriate.

All submissions will be subject to similarity checks and academic integrity screening as part of the review process.
