Prof. Debasis Kundu

About the Speaker


Prof. Kundu completed his B.Stat. and M.Stat. from Indian Statistical Institute and obtained his PhD in Statistics from Pennsylvania State University in 1989. Since then he worked for multiple roles in academics at University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State University, University of Texas at Dallas. He joined IIT Kanpur in 1990 and is currently working there as Professor in Department of Mathematics and Statistics. His research interests include Statistical Signal Processing, Distribution Theory, and Reliability & Survival Analysis. His works have been cited for more than 11000 times. He has been awarded fellowships of prestigious academic societies like National Academy of Sciences, India, Royal Statistical Society, London etc. He has many accolades in regard to awards, few of which include C.L. Chandana Mathematics Award from Canadian World Education Foundation for Distinguished and Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Research and Teaching, 2004, Distinguished Statistician Award by the Indian Society of Probability and Statistics, 2014, and Excellence In Teaching Award by I.I.T. Kanpur, 2019.
