About the Symposium
On account of celebrating 60 glorious years of the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), the Centre for Disaster Management and Research (CDMR), IIT Guwahati, North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and ISET are jointly organizing a two-day symposium on Socio-Technological Aspects of Seismic Disaster and Mitigation on 23rd and 24th June 2022 at IIT Guwahati. This 2-day event will encompass the social and technical aspects of earthquakes and disaster mitigation through plenary/invited lectures, presentations and panel discussions.
About Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET)
The Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET) came into being in November 1962 with Late Prof. Jai Krishna as the founding President and was registered in December 1964 under Society's Registration Act 1961. Since its inception in 1962, the Society has been involved in the organization of four yearly Symposia in Earthquake Engineering. Apart from these, the Society has been involved in the organization of several conferences including the Sixth World Conference on Earthquake Engineering held in New Delhi in 1977. It is also engaged in various activities directed towards creation of awareness about earthquake and earthquake engineering in general -public as well as scientific/engineering communities. The Society also organizes short term training courses dealing with earthquake technology from time to time.
About IIT Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. The Institute has eleven departments and seven interdisciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science, and humanities disciplines, offering B.Tech., B.Des., M.A., M.Des., M.Tech., M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes.
About the Centre for Disaster Management and Research (CDMR)
Centre for Disaster Management and Research (CDMR), the organizing Centre for this symposium, was established in November 2020. A team of young and energetic faculty members working in various fields related to disaster management contribute to this multidisciplinary centre through research, innovation, consultancy, capacity building and advocacy. The Centre aspires to be a leader in research and innovation and meaningfully contribute to the development of the Northeast region and elsewhere. CDMR at IIT Guwahati attempts to assimilate recent developments in climate change and disaster management and address the challenges through integrated adaptation.
