LOCATION

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is located in Amingaon area, which is on the outskirts of the northern part of Guwahati. It is well connected to other parts of the country by road, train and air. You can book direct flights from/to cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and other major cities, and the nearest airport is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU). On the other hand, Guwahati is well connected by train with all of India's major cities, and Guwahati railway station and Kamakhya Junction railway station are the two nearest stations from the campus.
The campus is around 20 km from GS Road, which is the heart of the city, and is a 40-minute drive from the airport.

REACHING IIT GUWAHATI CAMPUS

FROM GUWAHATI AIRPORT

In the arrival lounge (inside the airport), there is a prepaid taxi counter, which can be booked for a taxi to IIT Guwahati. The taxi fare is around Rs 800 approximately. Shared cabs from the airport are also available for around Rs 200.

FROM GUWAHATI RAILWAY STATION

You can exit through platform number one towards Panbazar, and book a cab/taxi to campus directly, and the fare can be approximately Rs 400.

You can also avail the Institute bus service to reach the campus. You can download the one-stop app from the play store to find the bus timings. The bus can be boarded in front of the Reserve Bank of India bus stop in Panbazar. Ferry and Ropeway services are also available to reach campus. For timing, please refer to one-stop app.

TOURIST PLACES

You can get around Guwahati by bus, which is the cheapest option, or by cab services available online. Or else, you can also rent a scooter or a motorbike to get around the city. For sightseeing, you can visit temples like the Kamakhya Temple, Navagraha Temple, or the Tirupati Balaji Temple for attaining spiritual peace, or visit the Assam State Zoo, Umananda Island (smallest inhabited river islet in the middle of river Brahmaputra) to spend a day among nature and wildlife. You can also choose to take a day trip to the resorts on Sonapur road or visit Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for holding one of the largest Indian rhinoceros populations in Assam. You can also plan a weekend outing to visit Shillong, which is only a three-hour drive from Guwahati and other regions of Meghalaya such as Dawki and Cherrapunji.
